The 1981 Gold Sovereign is one of the most recognised and trusted British gold bullion coins ever produced. Struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold, it combines historic British coinage, investment-grade gold, and worldwide recognition. As UK legal tender, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and VAT-free — making it one of the most tax-efficient forms of physical gold ownership available.

The 1981 issue features Arnold Machin’s famous Decimal Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II — used on British coinage from 1968 to 1984 and considered one of the most admired royal coin portraits of the modern era. This makes the coin particularly appealing to collectors building historic QE II Sovereign date runs. Read: The History of Gold as Money and Is Gold a Good Hedge Against Inflation?
