The 1oz Australian Gold Kangaroo is one of the world’s most respected and recognisable gold bullion coins. Produced by the world-renowned Perth Mint, this investment-grade gold coin combines exceptional purity, stunning annual design changes, and global investor demand, making it a popular choice for both collectors and precious metals investors.

Containing one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, the Australian Gold Kangaroo is internationally recognised for its quality, authenticity, and liquidity. Since its introduction, the series has become one of the flagship bullion coin programmes in the world, competing alongside other major bullion coins such as the Gold Britannia, American Gold Eagle, Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, and South African Krugerrand.

The History of the Australian Gold Kangaroo

The story of the Australian Gold Kangaroo begins in 1986 when the Perth Mint launched the Australian Gold Nugget series. Originally, these coins featured famous Australian gold nuggets discovered during the country’s historic gold rush era. In 1989, the reverse design was changed to Australia’s most famous national icon — the kangaroo — and the series has been known globally as the Australian Gold Kangaroo ever since. Today, the Gold Kangaroo is considered one of the leading bullion coin programmes worldwide and is traded by investors, institutions, and precious metals dealers across the globe.

Annual Design Changes

One of the most unique features of the Australian Gold Kangaroo series is its changing reverse design. Unlike many bullion coins that retain the same artwork year after year, the Perth Mint introduces a new kangaroo design annually. This means each year offers collectors and investors something different while maintaining the coin’s strong bullion credentials, combining investment-grade gold content with collectable potential.

Why Investors Choose Gold Kangaroos
